Gaillac, one of the oldest vineyards in France

Intensified competition

In spite of the royal edicts, meaning to simplify the wine trade from Gaillac to Bordeaux up to the French Revolution, problems kept arising. The harsh competition considerably hampered the evolution of the Gaillac vineyard.

The trade survived this crisis until the end of the 18th Century, when transactions started slowing down despite the very high standard of Gaillac wines.
